Queen Creek accepts applications to fill vacant Town Council seat Posted Date: 11/5/2009 When Queen Creek Town Council Member Gail Barney recently resigned to run for Mayor in the 2010 election, there were two years remaining of his four-year term. The Queen Creek Town Council is now accepting applications to fill Barney’s seat for the remainder of his term until June 2012. Those wishing to apply to fill the remaining two years of Barney’s post should submit a letter and resume to Town Clerk Jennifer Robinson by 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Interviews will be held and an appointment will be made on Monday, Nov. 30. Current Mayor Art Sanders and Town Council members Joyce Hildebrandt, Gordon Mortensen and Jon Wootten have announced that they will not seek re-election in 2010, so three Town Council seats and the Mayor’s post will be open in the March 9 primary election. This will be the first time that the Mayor is elected for a four-year term. The three Town Council seats are also four-year terms. Candidate packets are available now in the Town Clerk’s office and must be submitted by 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9.
